There's nigh on an hour of extras, some being rather repetitious. Promo films of the time are of a slight historical interest, but that's about all. The outtakes are a damp squib and the makeup programme interminable in parts - I wanted to leap through the screen and tear Naughton's hand out of its plaster cast at one point.
But the actors' commentary reveals a lot and avoids some of the simpering luvvieness that bedevils this format. There are some other good bits - the stills gallery is very handsome - but it's the 2001 interviews with John Landis, and especially the one on Rick Baker, that are most revealing. Landis shows himself to be an interesting egomaniac and Baker gives some indication as to what motivated him in the film - more of it would have been welcome.
The transfer is clear, probably as clear as possible, though the sound is slightly less clean, and this is one of those packages which is somehow more than the sum of its parts. It leaves you with a satisfying feeling of having got under the film's production skin.
