The source materials for this transfer are not excellent, but they improve as the film goes on. There is noticeable grain in the transfer, but the colour balance and contrast seem fine to me. The picture is sharp throughout and there are rare blemishes on the print. The transfer is anamorphic and the image seems well proportioned. The film opens with a bit of a hum on the soundtrack and there are occasional pops to be heard. The audio is solid stereo, but doesn't have the surround track of the R1 disc. There is no distortion or hiss throughout. The English subtitles are without typing errors or lapses in grammar and are removable.
The disc does come with the extra of an interview with Kusturica in English. He explains a little about the film and how it was an attempt to put the Czech filmmaking technique he had learnt alongside a world he knew very well. There are trailers for a number of other Kusturica films and a filmography. A reasonable disc for a rare debut feature from Kusturica.
