This Special Edition DVD has an aspect of 2.35:1 and a generous 5.1 Dolby digital sound. The transfer of the animation is faultless. The extra features, however, are a serious let down and do not do the film justice.
Behind The Scenes shows nothing of the making of the movie, nor the techniques of its creator - there is no input from Miyazaki at all. Instead, we see the Hollywood actors being interviewed.
There is a trailer, complete with that predictable American voice-over to give it a hint of hype.
What brings the extras back from the dead is Helen McCarthy's book, which offers an insight into the great animator and is a valuable source for further Miyazaki viewing.
You are also able to view the film in its original language, with subtitles, which, for me, is how it is meant to be seen.
