Craig Ferguson, comedian and star of hairdressing film The Big Tease, was in town today, for the World Premiere of his new film. There was some disappointment that Craig wasn't decked out in tartan (see below) as he is in the film, but he made up acting up for the assembled photographers outside the cinema. He was so good one photographer remarked he had obviously done this before. "Not nearly as much as I would like," joked Ferguson.

One of the benefits of having a major studio behind a film -- Warner Bros to be exact -- is that they know how to throw a good party. The do was in ex-bank, now "super pub", the Dome bar, in Edinburgh's New Town, which gets its name after the huge neo-classical domed roof. It's all a bit of a blur now, but I'm recollecting beautiful women with perfect hair (hairdressers?), large suited men smoking cigars (execs?), endless booze, bumping into and almost spilling my glass of champagne over Tim Roth, a huge pair of scissors dangling above our heads, easy listening music, and, er, smoking pineapples -- the trays of eats that were brought round had smoking pineapples!

Earlier today, East is East director, Damien O'Donnell, was somewhat shocked at having to pay for the photo for his pass to the delegates' centre.

Four "young people" from SCAMM (don't ask me what it means!) have been in and around the festival filming footage for a project. It seems like the ability to be small, cheeky and, above all, determined can get even famous filmmakers to give you an interview.

Another interesting bar anecdote: a well-known American filmmaker (the names have been removed to spare the humiliation) was seen posing for photographs in a vaguely cowboy getup outside the Filmhouse. He wouldn't have been smiling quite so much if he knew he was standing in a pool of urine.

Big Tease star Craig Ferguson arriving at the ABC tonight.

Co-star Frances Fisher checks to see if Craig's manly jaw is real.
