The Standard Life Audience award was announced today. One of
our favourite films (and conspicuously absent from The
Best of the Fest) was the winner: The
Buena
Vista Social Club
2nd: East is East
3rd: The Big Tease
4th: All About My Mother
5th: A Room
For Romeo Brass
Of course, it was also the closing gala today. At the Odeon,
Beautiful People premiered,
and the various awards were announced. Apart from the casts
of Beautiful People and A
Room For Romeo Brass, Charles Dance was spotted in the foyer
-- with several shopping bags. I guess if you're up for the
weekend you may as well make the most of it.
The closing party was held at "Scotland's Millennium Dome",
the Dynamic
Earth, and featured flaming torches outside -- definitely
the party accessory of the festival.
An excellent party (free booze is always a winner!), with all
the staff getting invites and a number of reasonably famous
people there: the aforementioned casts of Beautiful People and
A Room For Romeo Brass as well as Tim Roth, Lara Belmont and
John Cusack (who's a lot taller than you think).
The party lasted into the small hours and most people ventured
further afterwards. All I know is that I woke up the next morning
with a large poster for Beautiful People propped up against
my door and no idea why it was there.
