The Cannes Film Festival
The 55th Cannes Film Festival ran from 15 - 21 May 2002

Michael Moore's Bowling in Columbine was the first doc in competition in 46 years. It won a special Jury Prize.
 
Background

The Festival International du Film in Cannes first made its appearance in 1946 and since then has has grown into possibly the most prestigious international film festival in the world. As well as the high star quotient, this is where some of the top non-Hollywood films get their first public airing.

The highlight of the Festival is the award of the prestigious Palme d'Or. Previous winners have included:
