This overly long melodrama from the Philipines suffers technical flaws like poor dubbing, patchy performances and a meandering narrative. Set on Negros Island in the Visayan sea it depicts the unlikely romance between the girl from a wealthy family and a boy so poor that he doesn't even have a pair of shorts to wear when he is fixing fishing nets.

As love blossoms, the political climate takes a turn for the worse with terrorist and militia brutality an ever increasing part of daily life.

Although in need of some judicious editing, the story will eventually draw you in. Particularly effective is the use of spooky jungle demons with blackened faces and tribal outfits, who appear like a Greek chorus as events are about to take a turn for the worse, or when a character has become possessed by darker forces.
