ONE that certainly will ring a few chords, coming as it does at a time of major turbulence in the stock market. Boiler Room revisits Oliver Stone's Wall Street territory, with a story about college dropout, Seth (Giovanni Ribisi) who finds himself torn between the rush of making big money and the guilt of ripping off little people.
In amongst this is a somewhat melodramatic sub-plot focusing on the strained relationship between Seth and his distant father who is a judge, and whose respect Seth, to his distress, seems never able to earn.
The story is not totally original, but it captures the nastiness and wideness of the fringe Manhatten stock-broking crowd well. After a cracking build-up, and some strong performances, the ending is sadly a bit limp and predictable.
