PURVEYOR of Asian cinematic hipness Wong Kar-Wei explores the world of Hong Kong's young nocturnes in this his fifth film. Focusing on the separate stories of an assassin, his female accomplice, a mute shop-breaker, a mysterious blonde female who is in pursuit of the killer and a young man who videos his elderly father we are given a moody, kaleidoscopic view of the city as (most of) it sleeps. The film extensive use of stylish wide angle shots, highly charged songs and quick edits, makes keeping up with the film a challenge. But nevertheless worth the effort.
