The first Slovenian feature directed by a woman, Maja Weiss, this is a hotch potch of drama, pyschological thriller, mysticism and social commentary. Echoing the river trip of Deliverance, three very different university girls take a canoe down the scenic Kolpa river that separates the border between Croatia and Slovenia.

What starts off as an innocuous jaunt through a beautiful lush landscape, becomes a voyage of sexual discovery. Along the way the girls encounter suspicious villagers, lecherous and drunken locals, refugees and a mystery man who inexplicably the most straight-laced of the girls develops a crush on. Over camp fires and swigs from a bottle they learn more about each other.

The tone of the film ebbs and flows from youthful insouciance (the girls float topless down the river, go clubbing) to creepy and ominous (they remember there is a rapist on the loose). Later in the film the sexually-charged atmosphere spills over into the realm of the subconscious with Weiss giving us some lavish paganesque/mythical dream sequences. Despite memorable visuals and curious tone, the story meanders to the point where you are left wondering what on earth the film is trying to say.
