A low-budget black comedy about a group of men who claim that they're doing a business course when in fact they're doing a drink/drive rehab course and spend a lot of time in the pub after studies.

In the company of four hardened boozers, One For The Road is essentially Men Behaving Badly, or could have been aptly titled, Men On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, as it takes you into the world of Richard (Hywel Bennett), a wealthy retired property developer, Jimmy (Greg Chisholm), a young man who has inherited a warehouse, salesman Paul (Rupert Proctor) and cab driver Mark (Mark Devenport). Gradually a plot develops when Marh, Paul and Jimmy get their hands on Richard's money.

It works quite well. At times, their behaviour seems shocking, but they carry out their plans with such false bravura and inherent bravado that the reality is engaging, because, although the types who like to give the impression of a hard exterior, underneath they are vulnerable.

The roleplays on the drink/drive course are funny and come with a genuine ring of truth, containing some great moments of humour, especially since their teacher is clearly a man in the wrong profession and would have loved to be an actor.

The only weakness is the intimation from a promising writer/director that drink/driving is an exclusively male occupation. Putting a girl on the course might have altered the dynamics and added an extra gear to the script.
