ONE star may be overdoing it as I never made it to the end of this film. I'm not one to walk out during a feature, but this was just too painful. Even after the first half hour some people were making their exits.

For what it's worth the first 40 minutes are an absurd, kitsch musical-cum-drama about an assassinated butcher and mafia member seen through the eyes of his family and acquaintances in bizarre, tenuously linked flashbacks.

Basically, this is a mess. There were a few chuckles for the musical sequences, particularly when the leading mafia men ham up a Seventies disco dance with wigs, platforms and red silk shirts undone to their spreading midriffs. But this is mixed in with a very grainy black-and-white film, and supertacky links involving wooden puppetry. What is Roberta Torre on?
