A Very British Gangster narrated by Donald MacIntyre (the undercover crime specialist) takes you into the world of a notorious crime family led by Dominic Noonan, a second generation Irish mob boss who led a gang who became revered for assisting the law in their own neighbourhoods with families in distress turning to Noonan rather than the local cops.

The film provides a revealing and often humourous introspection of one of Britain's most dangerous crime families. Britain's best-known investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre presents a close-up view of a world embroiled in kidnapping, torture, narcotics and murder, and a world where frequently the bizarre actions of a community take over day-to-day life in a way that even Noonan himself finds funny.

It's fascinating for showing that a British gangster can be human, can have a heart, but also for revealing the management structure that makes up his gang and the scrapes they get into. Over the course of a three year period, they get involved in some tense stand-offs as well as some routine neighbourhood disputes.

If you're interested in seeing the British working class in a light that reflects what's going on in our own neighbourhoods, then take a look at Donal MacIntyre's fascinating DVD which has picked up good reviews for the candid study of Noonan that he's managed to produce.
