Could this be the next Monty? This is a wonderul, at times hilarious, feel-good tale about the impact on a tiny village in rural Southern Ireland of someone winning the lottery grand jackpot.

This is David Kelly's debut feature and there is little doubt that he will be back urged back for more on the strength of this. Kelly comes to film via commercials which explains why the film is so impeccably edited. It has the mark of an accomplished story-teller, the gentle pace of the narrative balancing incident with character development to a tee.

You can guess that is a keen commercial mind married to a huge creative talent. The movie has broad appeal with fine performances by the elderly stars, Ian Bannen and Michael O'Sullivan. The dialogue is full of lyrical, poignant insights and the blarney flows like guinnness on a day at the Dublin races.

The village setting is one of rural idyll, with its sweeping aerial shots of green cliff tops, and breaking waves. It would be a great advertisement for the Irish Tourist Board, except that the whole movie was shot in the Isle of Man.
