From the moment Zia (Patrick Fugit) cuts his wrists this film becomes a curioso taking you into the bizarre afterlife reserved purely for suicides.

Searching for his long lost love with newfound friends (Sossamon and Waits), a trio form an uncommon bond in their quest for happiness in a world where everyone bears the scars earned from the manner in which they "offed".

Wristcutters is certainly unusual and quite funny in places. It raises as many questions as it answers. The romantic angle is nicely played out, there's an enjoyable cameo from Tom Waits and an interesting take on the world to come as it might be - for those who have committed suicide it is the same as the last one, execept "that everything is a little bit worse."

The film will best suit an indie crowd who are into the work of directors like Hal Hartley or Jim Jarmusch,. It has an offbeat quality to it but you need to go into it with low expections or indeed no expectations to get the most out of it. Better still wait for it on DVD.
