By iofilm - Posted on 27 August 2009

Vancouver, Canada – The programme for the 24th Vancouver Film & TV Forum (29 Sept - 2 Oct, 2009) along with New Filmmakers’ Day on 3 Oct, has been announced. Among the highlights of the five day industry and educational event will be a masterclass with non-linear Hollywood scribe Charlie Kaufman.

The related Vancouver International Film Festival starts on 1st October and runs until 16th October.

The Film & TV Forum sees five full days of networking opportunities, master classes, seminars, roundtable discussions, Telefilm Canada Tête-à-tête meetings, speed dating sessions and, new for 2009, STORYVILLE Vancouver, all geared towards the professional development of the local film and TV community.

The event breaks down as such:

FILM TALK – Tuesday, September 29
TV TALK – Wednesday, September 30
STORYVILLE Vancouver – Thursday, October 1
DOC TALK – Friday, October 2
NEW FIMMAKERS’ Day – Saturday, October 3

In 2009, The Forum’s theme is The Subjects of Change...broadcasters feeling the pinch, iTunes, downloads and uploads...embracing the broader reach of digital distribution...indie budgets declining...market fragmentation and migration...new business model strategies...new kinds of media projects grabbing audiences across all genres, and The Subjects of Change provides a wake-up call to producers to envision the potential of a single concept across a wide range of platforms.

"Big change is happening all around us in 2009 and this year's Forum tackles these seismic shifts head-on," says Michael Ghent, Creative Director for the Film and TV Forum.

"We're bringing in world-class talent in all areas of film and television to enlighten us on business models, content creation, and the best strategies to maximize future opportunities. We are particularly pleased to have secured Peter Dekom, one of the most powerful lawyers and recognized commentators in the entertainment business, to give our opening keynote address."

On the creative front, Charlie Kaufman is dropping by on NEW FILMMAKERS' DAY (October 3) to share his views and insights on anything and everything about his particular writing process.

Academy Award, BAFTA, and Independent Spirit Award-winning US screenwriter, director and producer, Kaufman's screenwriting credits include Synecdoche, New York, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Human Nature and Being John Malkovich.

On DOC TALK Day (October 2), Grand Jury Prize-winner at Sundance, Ondi Timoner’s We Live in Public tells the story of the effect the web is having on our society, as seen through the eyes of "the greatest Internet pioneer you've never heard of," visionary Josh Harris. 21st Century Distribution Tactics, features Jon Reiss, named one of "10 Digital Directors to Watch" by Daily Variety who will discuss the trends in the market – positive and negative – for creative, non-fiction work: developing your doc for broadcast and Internet, targeting audiences, branded content, engaging corporate partners, on-line fundraising, new media platforms and possible new business models that can be 'embedded' in various types of media.

The 24th Annual Vancouver Film and TV Forum takes place at the Rogers Industry Centre at the Vancouver International Film Centre, 1181 Seymour Street from September 29 – October 2, 2009 plus New Filmmakers’ Day, October 3.

The Forum is produced by the Vancouver International Film Centre and supported by Telefilm Canada.
