Winner: KAMCHATKA (Argentina/Spain) directed by Marcelo Pineyro.
* The Federal Express Award for Most Popular Canadian Film (popular vote, no cash prize)
Winner: THE CORPORATION (British Columbia), directed by MARK ACHBAR and JENNIFER ABBOTT. Runner-up is THE DELICATE ART OF PARKING (British Columbia), directed by TRENT CARLSON.
* The Citytv Western Canada Feature Film Award (for Best Feature Film from
Western Canada); award and $12,000 from Citytv.
Winner: NATHANIEL GEARY for ON THE CORNER (British Columbia).
* The Keystone Award (for Best Young Western Canadian Director of a Short Film);
new award with $5,000 cash prize sponsored by International Keystone Entertainment.
Winner: JESSE MCKEOWN for THE BIG CHARADE (British Columbia).
* The National Film Board Award for Best Documentary Feature
Winner: LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF (USA), directed by Thom Andersen
* The Women in Film and Video Vancouver Artistic Merit Award
