The Calcium Kid is a British mockumentary about boxing.

The legendary Jose Mendez is coming to London for a title fight. During training, his UK challenger gets injured, following a tussle with a young milkman, Jimmy (Orlando Bloom).

For boxing promoter Herbie Bush, this is a calamity. He stands to lose a large amount of money unless he can come up with a new challenger. Enter young Jimmy, with no fights under his belt, soon to be billed as The Calcium Kid. It's going to be a David vs Goliath affair, with the ebullient Herbie simply interested in the sale of tickets.

This is an intriguing concept, well put together, with the mockumentary crew detailing the action in a lead up to the fight. There are some memorable moments, although it's a bit of a let down in the laughter department, merely because the writing could have been better. Bloom is entertaining as the young boxer, relying on his pinta a day to win fame and fortune in the ring.
