A film that premiered to memorable effect at the London Film Festival last November was the exciting release of a new film by US indie director Lodge Kerrigan (Clean Shaven, Claire Dolan),
An intense claustrophobic study of a young man William (played memorably by Damian Lewis) trying to unravel the disappearance of his daughter (played by young Signs star Abigail Breslin, also seen in Little Miss Sunshine) from the NY Port Authority rail station some months previously.
The film has many similarities with The Night Listener but is arguably the better of the two films because director Lodge Kerrigan (Clean Shaven, Claire Dolan) builds up appreciable suspense, uses a sense of ambiguity to great effect and also most importantly keeps you rooting for the father in pursuit of the truth surrounding his daughter. It's all about vulnerability and compassion in a Taxidriver world of faceless bars and clubs and Kerrigan does well to hide what may happen until the final reel plays out.
