HIDEO Nakato's 1998 gem is a masterpiece of understatement. Almost entirely devoid of gore, its repeated use of static-riddled footage of the dead Sadako, her face hidden, binds the audience into her deadly world.
The rules of the game are laid bare early on yet do little to prepare you for the deeply unsettling implications of the ending. A genuinely terrifying horror movie.
