FRENCH filmmaker Sandra Veysset famous for her powerfully moving "Will it Snow for Christmas?" brings to light once again a subject of a deeply disturbing nature, this time going even further into the taboo realm of incest and child abuse.
Although the setting is dark and strikingly realistic the story develops with a sweet and tender rendering of the growing relationship between women and child. A lonely young prostitute, Trishe, takes Victor a child runaway under her wing after he is found sleeping alone at the carnival. A surrogate bond is born from the similarity of their experiences, both victims of a harsh and unforgiving familial environment.
Using striking cinematic realism, Veysset deals delicately with issues of incest, prostitution, and the disintegration of the family. A poetic interpretation, that is deftly handled and ultimately hopeful.
